Good Good Lovin’

Today's blog post was inspired by one of the most beautiful engagement videos I have ever seen. The images of the couple's extraordinary love and engagement were played out in spectacular video and pictures to the backdrop of Bob Marley's song, "Turn Your Lights Down Low." The song was also beautifully remade years later by Lauren Hill.

I love BobMarley for many reasons, but one of my favorite things about him is that he infuses his spirituality into his music. In his music, he often refers to Ja, his name for the Divine, as a Rastafarian.

As I watched the beautiful, heartfelt, and awe-inspiring engagement video, I pondered what "good good loving" means to me. But before I get into that, let's get into the song.

Here's how the song begins to refresh your memory (and if it doesn't, YouTube it, you won't be sorry):

"Turn your lights down low

And pull your window curtains

Oh, let Jah moon come shining in

Into our life again

Sayin' ooh, it's been a long, long time

I kept this message for you, girl

But it seems I was never on time

Still I wanna get through to you, girlie

On time, on time

I want to give you some love (good, good lovin')

I want to give you some good, good lovin' (good, good lovin')

Oh I, oh I, oh I

Say, I want to give you some good, good lovin' (good, good lovin')."

When I think it "good good lovin" it's more than any "feel good" sensation from physically intimate encounters.

Don't get me wrong.

There is something to be said about the healing power of mind-blowing, toe-curling sex, but we'll leave that topic for another blog. 😉

I think of "good good lovin" as the transforming, eternal, never-changing, life-affirming, always present Love of the Divine, also known as Sacred Love.

Sacred love has the power to:

Renew us

Uplift us

Protect us

Heal us

Empower us

Encourage us

Sustain us

Guide us

Teach us

Embrace us

From the Inside Out!

There is no love like this type of "good good lovin'".

Here are a few tips on how to get that "good good" sacred lovin' that I interpreted from Bob Marley's song.

1. Turn your lights down low (block outside distractions).

We live busy lives and sometimes make very little room to develop our relationship with our Higher Power, the Divine, or the God of our understanding. By blocking distractions and focusing on our relationship with the Divine, we grow that relationship within ourselves. It's a powerful way to understand and experience Sacred love. Make time for it!

2. Pull your window curtains (honor the sacred within you in privacy).

You may have heard of a prayer room or a prayer closet. It's a place where people go alone to pray, meditate, or be silent. It is a private place to connect with God. Some of the most sacred experiences happen in dark, intimate spaces. Babies form in the womb, roots are nurtured and grow underground to produce fruit in the Spring, caterpillars emerge from their cocoons as butterflies, and I could go on and on. The point is to create private, quiet time to grow your relationship with the Divine.

3. Let my love come tumbling in (let love in).

When you take time to experience and grow your relationship with the Divine, in private and with an open mind and heart, you make yourself available to Sacred love. I encourage you to let love in. When we release judgment and fear created by old, outdated beliefs about love or the Divine, it becomes easier to do.

Sacred love calls out to us from within.

Honor it.

Learn from it.

Let it transform you from the inside out.

I created a Free Self Love Mini Course that can support you in cultivating your love relationships from the inside out. Holistic Self Love Free Mini Course
